Terms and Conditions of Dog Adoption

The following terms and conditions constitute a binding agreement between the Adopter and Carolines Dog Rescue. By adopting a dog from us, you agree to uphold these standards to ensure the lifelong welfare and safety of your new companion.

Rehoming Responsibility

The Adopter agrees that the dog will live as a house pet and will not be sold, traded, or given away to any third party. If for any reason the Adopter can no longer keep the dog, they must contact Carolines Dog Rescue immediately to arrange for the dog's return to the rescue.

Euthanasia

The dog must not be euthanised for any reason unless on the written advice of a qualified veterinarian for medical or extreme behavioral reasons, except in a dire emergency where immediate relief from suffering is required and a veterinarian is present.

Use of the Dog

The dog is being adopted as a companion animal. Under no circumstances shall the dog be used for breeding, guarding, fighting, experimental purposes, or as a working animal without prior consultation with the rescue.

Veterinary Care and Health

The Adopter assumes full responsibility for all future veterinary costs, including vaccinations, flea/worm treatments, dental care, and any illness or injury that may occur after the date of adoption.

Legal Responsibility

Upon adoption, the Adopter becomes legally responsible for the dog’s actions and any liability, damage, or injury caused to persons or property by the dog. Carolines Dog Rescue shall not be held liable for any such incidents.

Identification

As per UK law, the dog must wear a collar and identification tag displaying the Adopter's name and address at all times when in public. The Adopter must also ensure microchip records are kept up-to-date with current contact information.

Lost or Missing Dog

If the dog becomes lost or goes missing, the Adopter must notify Carolines Dog Rescue within 24 hours. The Adopter is also responsible for informing the local council dog warden, the police, their veterinary practice, and updating the relevant microchip database immediately.

Adoption Fees

The adoption fee requested is a contribution towards the significant costs of rescue, veterinary care, and transport. This donation is non-refundable, as all funds are immediately reinvested into helping other dogs in need. If the application is successful, the total adoption fee is £600. This includes £250 towards transport and £350 towards vaccinations and associated preparation costs. At present, no adoption fee will exceed £600.

Information Provided

The Adopter confirms that all information provided during the application process, including living circumstances, experience with dogs, and home environment, is true and accurate to the best of their knowledge.

Responsibilities of Ownership

The Adopter agrees to provide for the dog’s physical and mental well-being, including a safe home environment, appropriate diet, regular exercise, and socialisation. The dog must be treated as a valued family member.

Age Requirement

The Adopter must be at least 18 years of age to enter into this adoption agreement and assume legal responsibility for the dog.

Insurance

Carolines Dog Rescue strongly advises all adopters to maintain comprehensive pet insurance throughout the dog’s life to ensure that unexpected veterinary costs do not compromise the dog’s health or the Adopter's finances.

Neutering

If the dog is not already neutered due to age or medical reasons at the time of adoption, the Adopter agrees to have the dog neutered/spayed at their own expense by a date agreed with the rescue (typically 6 months of age or within 3 months of adoption).

Data Retention

Carolines Dog Rescue will hold the Adopter's personal information securely on file for the life of the dog to facilitate rescue support and microchip tracking. We comply with GDPR and will never sell your data to third parties.
